I have been informed by sources close to President Obama that he intends to sign historic legislation levying sanctions on firms that do business with Iran’s financial and energy sectors.
I applaud the President and the leadership of both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives for taking this important step toward bringing enforceable penalties against those who support unchecked Iranian expansion and aggression throughout our region. If applied forcefully by President Obama, this act will bring new, important pressure to bear on Iran.
I have long been a critic of Iranian hegemony and its impact on our people, beginning with its improper occupation of our Tunb Islands and continuing with its use of our air and seaports for illicit goods and weapons movements. I look forward to working with the United Arab Emirates Federal Government and my friends in the United State to ensure these new sanctions are having the desired effect.
Similarly, I commend our United Arab Emirates Federal Government for recently taking action to get tough on those companies doing illicit business with Iran and to freeze Iran-linked bank accounts.
